Rural green line, small platform, DMU has stopped.

News (October 15th):

Late in 2005, when I stopped working on this website, I wrote an article about the reactivation of a rural railroad line in Germany, the “Haller Willem”. It is an example for a low-cost approach to passenger railroad operation. While the text existed, it wasn't integrated with the website. This has been done now.

News (October 15th):

Local computer and website now both use the character set utf-8. This set should include any character, which I might ever want to use for this website. Hopefully, this should solve any problem with character sets once and for all.

If I mention the Super Ozora of JR Hokkaido in future, which I did in the Shasta Route article, I can as well write スーパーおおぞら, as a result of this decision.

News (October 14th):

All pages of this website, more than 300, are now valid HTML. There weren't any errors in the past, but for being nice to old browsers, I had used non-standard elements, which were necessary for correct display in browsers like Netscape 4. Disadvantage: This approach needed too much labour for quality control. Starting today, it can be automated.

This belongs to the preparations, to restart work on this site in an efficient way.

News (November 15th, 2005):

I have added illustrations to the text about “Eurostat and the Modal Split”.

News (October 11th, 2005):

I have added a second document to the “Baltic Seatrain” issue, a letter to the Scandlines shipping line, written in 2002.
