In order to achieve a short bridge length over Shasta River, Southern Pacific has opted for a curve radius, that causes a speed restriction to 52 mph at least. In direct contact to a bridge with direct fixation of the track, it might not be possible to use high superelevation and high unbalanced superelevation, forcing an even lower limit.
