The Milwaukee Road would allow 3:45h train service between Seattle and Spokane, a huge value to passenger traffic. No policies have been in place, that allowed to use a few dollars to rescue such value. Instead, the alignment is used as a bicycle trail today. The author is a cyclist, who loves to cycle on former railroad track. But there might be more logical choices for a bikepath, than the best engineered railroad alignment in the northwestern USA, that allows 110 mph tilting train service for much of the distance.
