When the "Coast Starlight" travels along the shore of Upper Klamath Lake, it has passed the foothills of Mt. Shasta 2.5 hours before, and has already made its station stop at Klamath Falls. While this train is at least supposed to pass Mt. Shasta in the very early morning, passengers in the daytrains of the past looked at this mountain for quite a while.
